Ako pogledamo istoriju jugoslovenskog i srpskog fudbala, videćemo da je glavna tema koja se provlači kroz gotovo sve veće uspehe jeste – propuštena šansa. Kada god bi neka reprezentacija ili tim sa ovih prostora došli nadomak istorije, taj stepenik dokazao bi se isuviše velikim i teškim za prelaženje.

Reprezentacija Jugoslavije je na tri olimpijska turnira između 1948. i 1956. stizala do finala, ali nikako nije mogla da se popne na tron. U tome će uspeti iz četvrtog pokušaja, 1960. godine, ali primerima tu ni izbliza nije kraj.

MUNDIJAL 50: OGLEDALO NEPONOVLJIVOG PIKSIJA – JEDNOG JUNSKOG POPODNEVA U FRANCUSKOJ

Argentina je 1990. bila u nokdaunu, ali nije bila savladana. Partizan je 1966. imao Real Madrid u rukama, Crvena zvezda je 1979. imala priliku da osvoji Kup UEFA, a i 1988. su protiv velikog Milana Ariga Sakija bili nadomak trijumfa.

Santračeva Jugoslavija je 1998. prvo ispustila Nemačku (a time i prvo mesto u grupi), a onda i Holandiju u osmini finala. Veliki porazi su uvek dolazili kao normalna stvar, nešto što se pre ili kasnije moralo desiti. Svakako, postoje i odstupanja, kao pomenute Olimpijske igre 1960. godine i najveće odstupanje od svih – trijumf Zvezde u Kupu šampiona 1991. godine.

Međutim, nijedan veliki poraz nije bio toliko velik i značajan kao onaj u polufinalu Svetskog prvenstva u Čileu 1962. godine. Iako će neka nova generacija klinaca 25 godina kasnije na istom mestu ipak stići do titule prvaka sveta – doduše u uzrastu igrača do 20 godina – reprezentacija iz ’62 je propustila istorijsku šansu.

Bio je to turnir na kojem su reprezentaciju Jugoslavije predvodila dva selektora. Jedan je bio Ljubomir Lovrić, bivši fudbaler Crvene zvezde, dok je drugi bio Prvoslav Mihajlović, bivši fudbaler Partizana. Kompromis je očigledno tako bio pronađen, pa su njih dvojica vodili selekciju u Čile.

Turnir nije počeo dobro. Sovjetski Savez je na startu savladao Plave sa 2:0. Ivanov i Ponedeljnik su bili strelci, dok je Urugvaj savladao Kolumbiju i Jugoslavija je već u startu zaostajala. Međutim, relativno mladi tim Plavih, sa samo četiri igrača starijih od 27 godina, pokazao je drskost u nastavku turnira.

MUNDIJAL 50: BITKA ZA SANTJAGO – RAT ČILEA I ITALIJE, NOVINARI, ZEMLJOTRES I CRVENI KARTONI

Kada je Urugvaj u 19. minutu meča drugog kola zatresao mrežu Milutina Šoškića, činilo se da je epilog jasan. Ipak, to je trglo momke koji počinju da igraju fudbal kako to najbolje znaju. Josip Skoblar sa penala izjednačuje rezultat, a onda Milan Galić i Dražan Jerković upotpunjuju preokret.

Ostao je još meč sa Kolumbijom, a to je bio lagan posao. Galić i Jerković su postigli po još dva pogotka, dok se u strelce upisao i Vojislav Melić. Bez mnogo problema se stiglo do 5:0, a samim tim i drugog mesta u grupi. Sledio je meč sa Zapadnom Nemačkom.

Taj susret je mogao da bude prekretnica u istoriji jugoslovenskog fudbala. Četiri godine ranije, u istoj fazi turnira, Zapadna Nemačka je bila kobna po Plave. Tada je selekcija Aleksandra Tirnanića bila poražena minimalnim rezultatom, a Branko Zebec, Toza Veselinović, Vujadin Boškov i ekipa nisu mogli da izađu na kraj sa timom Sepa Herbergera.

Ovoga puta je stigla prilika za revanš i ravnanje računa. Nemci su bili prvoplasirani u grupi sa Čileom, Italijom i Švajcarskom i želeli su da se posle četvrtog mesta 1958. vrate na tron koji su osvojili 1954. godine. Više od svega, bila je to prilika da se Jugoslavija konačno pokaže na najvećoj sceni i ostvari najveći posleratni uspeh.

Ekipa u kojoj su nastupali Šoškić, Skoblar, Galić, Dragoslav Šekularac, Vladica Popović, Jerković, Petar Radaković, Fahrudin Jusufi imala je „štofa“ da pokaže zube Pancerima i reši se psihološke barijere koju je predstavljao poraz iz Švedske.

MUNDIJAL 50: GOL KOJI JESTE BRAZIL – NAJLEPŠI GOL U ISTORIJI SVETSKIH PRVENSTAVA

Bio je to tvrd meč u kojem nijedan tim nije želeo da odstupi. Nemačka disciplina je bila prisutna, ali ni Plavi se nisu dali. Kako se bližio kraj susreta, tako je i psihološka snaga imala sve veću ulogu. Sve više se približavao 90. minut, a to je bilo i vreme kada bi Nemci umeli da kazne svaki pad koncentracije i provuku se u narednu rundu.

Ipak, Jugoslavija je slavila na „nemački“ način. Igrao se 85. minut kada Radaković uspeva da savlada Volfganga Farijana i lansira Plave u polufinale. Istorijski uspeh je bio ostvaren, ali tu priči nije smeo da bude kraj. Naredni rival je bila Čehoslovačka.

I dok je selekcija Rudolfa Vitlačila bila ozbiljan protivnik – i njihov selektor je dobro pamtio slavnog Huga Majsla i igrao je u austrijskim klubovima dok je ovaj tamo pravio čuda i igrao do tada neviđeni fudbal – ona nije bila nijedna od najvećih selekcija. Uostalom, i pobeda nad Zapadnom Nemačkom daje pravo za povećanje apetita.

Sovjetski Savez je već bio ispao posle neočekivanog poraza protiv domaćeg Čilea, Englezi su imali nesreću da nalete na Peleov Brazil, dok su Italija, Argentina i Urugvaj već posle grupne faze bili na povratku u svoje domovine.

I onda, kako ne pomišljati na finale Svetskog prvenstva? Kako ne pomišljati na odmeravanje snaga sa Peleom, Garinčom, Vavom, Amarildom i ostalima? Tako nešto je sasvim prirodno, naročito u okolnostima u kojima su bili Plavi.

Međutim, tu se vraćamo na velike pobede i daleko veće poraze, na propuštene prilike. Tu se vraćamo na skoro perverznu sklonost ka predanjima o onome što je moglo da bude, na priče koje počinju sa „eh kad se samo setim“, a nijedna se ne završava hepi endom. Da li je to nekakva kletva ili je samo dokaz o nečemu nesavršenom što tinja u timovima sa ovih prostora, teško je (i gotovo nemoguće) utvrditi.

Jugoslavija je u tom meču protiv Čehoslovačke jurila rezultat. Kadraba je svom timu doneo vođstvu, a Plavi su se dosta mučili ne bi li stigli do izjednačenja. Jerković je uspeo da to učini sredinom drugog dela, ali snage u timu Jugoslavije više nije bilo. Usledio je kolaps u poslednjih deset minuta, kada je Šerer sa dva pogotka rešio pitanje pobednika. Jugoslaviji je ostao samo utešni meč za treće mesto.

MOGU LI SRBIJA ILI HRVATSKA KAO PREDSTAVNICE BIVŠE JUGOSLAVIJE DO POLUFINALA?

Ovo polufinale je bilo još jedna propuštena prilika. Olimpijski šampion nije stigao na megdan svetskom prvaku i bolje prilike za takav susret verovatno nikada više neće biti. I ne brinite, nije ovo žalopojka o „šta bi bilo kad bi bilo“, niti o tvrdnji da bi Brazilci pali pred driblinzima Šekularca i golgeterskoj surovosti Jerkovića.

Ne, ovo je žal što Šeki nije mogao da „proda“ neku fintu na kojoj bi i Pele pozavideo, što Šoškić nije dobio priliku da „skine“ zicer nezaustavljivom Garinči. Zapravo, ovo je žal što reprezentacija Jugoslavije nije uspela da postavi temelje za naredne decenije. Da postanu selekcija koja zna kako izgleda borba za trofej Žila Rimea. Da ni u jednom meču posle tog finala više ne budu inferiorni.

Možda tada ne bi ni došlo do poraza u finalu Eura 1968. godine. Možda bi ta finta koju Šeki drsko, pravo sa beogradskih ulica usred Vinja del Mara „prodaje“ Zitu ili Didiju napravila razliku kada je najpotrebnije. Neke stvari su samo nagađanja i nedvosmisleno su nedokazive, ali istovremeno, ne znači da u svemu tome nema nečega.

Uostalom, možda ni Čehoslovačka sa Panenkom na čelu ne bi osvojila Euro 1976. usred Beograda da njegova generacija nije posmatrala državne heroje kako se hrabro suprotstavljaju timu koji nisu mogli da pobede.

No, koliko god sve ovo poetski zvučalo, Jugoslavija se iz Čilea vratila kao četvrt tim sveta. To je nesumnjivo bio veliki uspeh. Ipak, ostaje žal što Jugoslavija nije ostvarila jednu veliku pobedu da izbriše sve one velike poraze koji će uslediti, kako na terenu, tako i u političkim okvirima.

Onda bi se Brazilci i danas sećali evropskih Brazilaca.
